Dickie Beau: Unplugged

A one-man variety show meets solo cabaret memoir, Dickie Beau: Unplugged is an intimate and stripped-back show in which Dickie takes the usually unheard of step of emerging from behind his vocal masks and speaking in his own voice. Here he tells the story of discovering drag, and how his love affair with found sound began; how it speaks not only to, but also for him; and he reveals that there is more to this lip-synching lark than meets the eye. Incorporating amazing audio footage and an erudite cultural history, this unique performance shows that there are surprising connections between lip synching, democracy and the origins of all theatre in Ancient Greece.

The show is able to shape-shift to adapt to multiple contexts and is available for touring as a theatre/cabaret piece for venues and festivals, and also works as a mobile performance lecture for universities and symposia.

Dickie Beau: Unplugged has been performed at the Orange Three Theatre, Richmond; Fusebox Festival (Austin, Texas), Edge Hill University and Live Collision Festival, Dublin.

“Sensational, sophisticated, multi-layered and thrilling work.”
